Garam masala (Indian spice powder)

Garam masala Powder always tastes fresh and easy to prepare at home so mostly i prepare Coriander Powder,red chilli powder,garam masala,sambar powder which i use in my cooking  everyday :).And preparing this spice powders is pretty simple and easy than i thought :p .Garam masala can be used in kurma,briyani,fry items as chicken 65,gobi 65 etc .During my childhood mom used to roast the ingredients for spice powder and grinding was done in a shop where there will be big grinding machines but now as i am staying in US  am using Mixie jar or food processor for grinding spice powders.As we are grinding in mixie jar this will result into coarse powder and not the fine powder as we get in market but preparing at home for small quantities always stays fresh.


  • clove-15 pieces
  • cumin seeds-3 tsp
  • cinnamon-2 tsp
  • star anise-5
  • pepper cons-2 tsp
  • coriander seeds-2 tsp
  • cardamom-10
  • fennel seeds-4 tsp


  • Dry roast all the items under the ingredients section.After a min you tend to get nice aroma.Roast for about 3-4 mins and try not to burn it.

  • Switch off the stove and let it cool.
  • Grind all the roasted items to fine powder.Store it in airtight container when its cool.

  • You can use this in all kurma dishes,briyani,fry items.Preparing at home tends to be more fresh and flavorful 🙂
