Grow Sprouts at home (healthy)

Grow Sprouts at your home easily by just soaking Green gram or mung bean in water for about 6-8 hrs and then rinse it well with water.Cover the green gram with wet cloth and place it in bowl. Cover the bowl with black cloth or any cloth and keep it in dark closet which will make warmer place for the sprouts to grow for about 24 hrs and in between make sure the cloth is wet or else sprouts wont grow.Sprouts is very healthy and nutritious food and  my mom used to say if you take regularly you can prevent diseases.My mom used to Grow Sprouts in sprout maker and she used to compel me to have but i used to have just 2 tbsp 😉 .Later she customized it by adding chat masala,onion and lemon juice.Moreover she is my mom she knows the tricks to feed me 😛 😛 , from them on i started consuming at least once in a week.If you don’t like to eat sprouts alone then customize based on your preference. Ingredients:

  • Green gram- 1/2 cup
  • Water
  • Clean Wet cloth
  • Bowl

Method for 1 day germination:

  • Soak Green gram with water for about 6-8 hrs.

  • After 6-8 hrs, you can see green gram being doubled in size.Wash and then add green gram to the wet cloth.

  • Cover the green gram as shown and keep it in dark & warm place as kitchen cabinet or oven with just lights on for about 24 hrs.In between just wash green gram with water once or twice and place it in dark place and make sure cloth should be wet which helps in germination.

  • After 24 hrs,open the cloth and you can see the germination of nutritious green gram.Rinse it well with water and eat it fresh or prepare as salad or sprouts curry.

Method for 2 day germination process:

  • Soak 1/2 cup Green gram,1/2 cup channa/chickpea ,1/2 cup kalachana/blackchickpea in water separately overnight.The next day drain the water and cover it with clean kitchen towel by  drizzling water all over it

  • Cover the green gram,chickpea,blackchickpea as shown and keep it in dark & warm place as kitchen cabinet or oven with just lights on for about 48 hrs.In between just wash green gram with water once or twice and place it in dark place and make sure cloth should be wet which helps in germination.

  • After 48 hrs,open the cloth and you can see the germination of nutritious green gram.Rinse it well with water and eat it fresh or prepare as salad or sprouts curry.

Storing Tip:

  • Add the dry sprouts in Ziploc or closed container and refrigerate for a week .Eating fresh is always better 🙂
