Fish curry with coconut | Golden thread coconut curry

Fish curry or meen kolumbu is traditional tangy South Indian recipe which is prepared with coconut paste,tamarind water and spice mixture.
This is soo mouthwatering recipe which goes well with dosa ,rice or idly . This recipe was inspired from my friend who prepared this fish curry with tilapia it tasted soo yummy !! Ingredients
  1. Sankara/golden thread fish-4 medium piece
  2. Tamarind water-2 cup
  3. Sambar powder-5 tsp (adjust based on your spice level)
  4. Salt- to taste
  5. Tomato paste-1/2 cup (Grind 1 medium tomato into fine paste)
  6. Green chili-2
  7. Water-1 cup
To temper
  1. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  2. Onion chopped-1/2
  3. Curry leaf-6
  4. Sesame Oil-1 tbsp
To grind
  1. Coconut-1/2 cup
  2. Onion-1
Instructions
  1. Buy the fish and clean it from market.Rinse the cleaned fish with turmeric, salt and water.
  2. Add tamarind water,tomato paste,salt,grinded paste(coconut,onion),sambar powder, salt,green chili in deep pan. If you don't have sambar powder then add chili powder-3 tsp ,coriander powder-3 tsp, Garam masala-1 tsp instead of sambar powder.
  3. Add required water( I added 1 cup water) and combine everything together and cook with lid on until it boils.
  4. Once it boils add fish and cook with lid on for about 15 mins.
  5. Heat pan with sesame oil ,add mustard seeds and let it splutter .Then add curry leaf,onion and saute for about 3-4 mins until onion becomes translucent.Add the tempered items to the fish curry and switch off the stove.
  6. To make the Fish Curry more tasty just leave the fish curry on the counter for about an hr so that all the flavors gets into fish very well .Later on you can attack this delicious Fish Curry!!!!!!!

Detailed recipe:

  • Add required water and combine everything together and cook with lid on until it boils.

  • Once it boils add fish and cook on medium flame with lid on for about 15 mins.
  • Heat pan with sesame oil ,add mustard seeds and let it splutter .Then add curry leaf,onion and saute for about 3-4 mins until onion becomes translucent.Add the tempered items to the fish curry and switch off the stove.
