Cauliflower Kurma | Cauliflower curry

Cauliflower Kurma is thick gravy which is prepared as side dish for roti or with jeera rice or even it tastes good with pulao 🙂




This is one of my favorite most of what my mom prepares for my lunch box!!!Any dish which contains coconut paste that would be my favorite and this Cauliflower Kurma comes into that category !!!!! 😉 I ♥ the Combination of cauliflower kurma with rice and lemon pickle (narthangai) ….

Ingredients
  1. Cauliflower- 1 and 1/2 cup
  2. Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
  3. Salt - to taste
  4. Cumin/jeera seeds- 2 tsp
  5. Fennel Seeds-1 tsp
  6. Bay leaf-1
  7. Oil-3 tsp
  8. Cinnamon sticks-2
  9. Star anise-2
  10. Onion-1 medium
  11. Tomato-1 medium
  12. Ginger garlic paste-2 tsp
  13. Chili powder - 2 tsp
  14. Coriander powder- 2 tsp
  15. Garam masala-1 tsp
  16. Capsicum-1/2 cup (or frozen peas or boiled potatoes)
To Grind
  1. Coconut chopped-1 tbsp
  2. Poppy seeds-1 tsp
  3. Cashews-6
  4. Water- required to grind
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in deep pan and once hot add fennel seeds,cumin,bay leaf,cinnamon,star anise.Saute for about a min.Add chopped onion,salt and cook till onion becomes translucent.Then add the ginger garlic paste.
  2. Cook till the raw flavor of ginger garlic disappears.Add tomato,turmeric powder,cook with lid on for about 3 mins or until tomatoes become mushy.
  3. Add the chili powder,corainder,garam masala powder and saute for about a min.Then add the blanched cauliflower & capsicum.You can use peas or potato instead of capsicum also.
  4. Meanwhile grind the items under to grind section by adding little water to make fine paste.Then add the grinded paste to cauliflower masala.
  5. Add the required water and stir it well.Cook with lid on for about 15 mins so that flavor gets into cauliflower well.
Notes
  1. Serve this Cauliflower Kurma with roti or rice and lemon pickle.
  2. Capsicum can be replaced with peas or potatoes

Cauliflower Kurma Detailed recipe:

  • Cut the cauliflower into small florets and then rinse it well with water and make sure there is no insect inside the flower.
  • Add cauliflower florets with water in pan and boil it for about 10 mins with lid on.Drain the cauliflower from the water using colander.
