Kala chana gravy | Black chickpea gravy

Kala chana gravy or kondakadali or black chickpea gravy would be awesome for appam,roti or even with rice!!!!! This dish is prepared with coconut paste which makes this gravy rich and tasty …my mom always prepares this for appam 😀 .




Kala chana is very healthy and it is good to include in our diet at least once in a week because of its low fat and high fiber content you can also prepare healthy kala chana soup (black chickpea/kondakadali soup)  and also chole masala made with spicy chickpea curry!

Ingredients
  1. Oil-1 tsp
  2. Boiled kala chana/balck chickpeas-2 cups
  3. Onion-1 medium
  4. Tomato-1 medium
  5. Salt-to taste
  6. Ginger garlic paste- 2 tsp
  7. Red chili-2
  8. turmeric powder- 1 tsp
  9. Chili powder-3 tsp (based on spiciness)
  10. Corainder powder-2 tsp
  11. Garam masla- 1 tsp
  12. Boiled kala chana water->1 cup
  13. Water->1 cup
To grind
  1. Chopped Coconut- 3 tsp
  2. Jeera/cumin seeds-2 tsp
  3. Onion-1/2
  4. Tomato-1
Instructions
  1. Wash and rinse the black chickpeas/kondakadali/kala chana well and Soak it overnight. Pressure cook for about 5 whistles.Reserve the boiled kala chana water.
  2. Grind all the items under to grind section to fine paste.
  3. Heat pan with oil and once hot add chopped onion,red chili,salt and saute for a min.Add ginger garlic paste and cook till raw flavor disappears.Then add chopped tomato,turmeric powder,close the lid and cook for about 3-4 mins until tomatoes become mushy.
  4. Add grinded coconut paste,chili powder,coriander,garam masala powder and cook for about 5 mins with lid on.
  5. Add the boiled black chickpeas, 1 cup of boiled chickpea water and 1 cup of water (add water based on your thickness of the gravy)
  6. Cook with lid on for about 15 mins so that masala gets penetrated inside the kala chana/black chickpea.
Notes
  1. Serve Kala chana gravy with appam, roti , dosa, rice ;) .This would be perfect for appam!!!!!!
  2. You can also prepare soup with healthy boiled black chickpeas soup recipe which is mentioned above this template

Kala chana gravy Detailed Recipe:
