Dal tadka | Dal fry

Dal tadka is Popular Punjabi recipe which is prepared by cooking toor dal with onion,tomato and tempered with oil or ghee ,cumin seeds,red chili,garlic,ginger,dry methi leaf  and the most important is the pearl onion which gives extra flavor to dal so dont miss to add pearl onions.




This can be served with Jeera rice or pulao or plain rice !!!!My favorite combo is Jeera rice with Dal tadka which tastes heaven!!!!!! 😉 😉 So why not try it ??

Ingredients
  1. Toor dal- 1 cup
  2. Water-2.5 cups (adjust based on consistency)
  3. Salt- to taste
  4. Onion-1 medium
  5. Tomato-1 medium
  6. Red chili powder-1 tsp
  7. Garam masala-1 tsp
  8. Oil-2 tsp
  9. turmeric powder- pinch
To temper
  1. Oil-2 tbsp
  2. Dry methi leaf powder- 1/2 tsp
  3. Garlic -4
  4. Ginger -1 inch
  5. Pearl onion-4-5
  6. Red chili-1
Instructions
  1. Rinse toor dal well in water and soak it for about 20-30 mins.
  2. Add soaked toor dal,onion,tomato, 2 tsp oil,turmeric powder,water in pressure cooker and keep it for 4-5 whistle.
  3. Once cooker cools down open the lid and add red chili powder,garam masala .Adjust the consistency of dal on your choice by adding water.
  4. Heat pan with 2 tbsp of oil then add red chili,chopped pearl onion,garlic,ginger,methi leaf powder and saute until garlic changes its color to slight brown.Pour the tempered items to dal.

  1. Serve this Dal tadka with Jeera rice or Pulao
