Prawn Thokku | Prawn fry

Prawn Thokku
My mom always prepares this for my lunch box and i pretty much love it with curd rice or rasam sadam and always having any dish from your mom just tastes heaven!! And this is my dad’s favorite too 🙂 The most important truth is that day there will be no more left over rice because of this yummy prawn thokku ;).Only thing we should keep in mind is not to overcook prawn or else you will end up having hard prawn.

Tips for cooking perfect Prawn fry

  • Cook the prawn just for about 10 mins (5 mins with lid on and 5 mins without lid on)
  • Don’t add too much water or else Prawn thokku will become watery
  • Adding coconut oil to this recipe enhances the flavor

Ingredients:

Prawn Thokku recipe:

  • Clean and devein the prawn. Add turmeric, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste to the prawn and marinate for about 10 mins.

  • Heat pan with 1 tbsp of coconut oil and once hot add fennel seeds,cinnamon sticks,onion and salt.Saute till onion becomes translucent.

  • Add ginger garlic paste and cook for about 3-4 mins until raw flavor disappears.Add tomato,turmeric ,chili powder,coriander powder,garam masala and mix it well.Smash tomato well and then add 1/4 cup of water.

  • Cook with lid on for about 5 mins or until masala gets cooked well.

  • Add the cleaned prawn and cook with the lid on for about 5 mins.

  • Then open the lid and let it cook for about another 5 mins.Switch off the stove and garnish with coriander/cilantro leaf.

Ingredients
  1. Prawn/Shrimp/Eral-500 gms
  2. Turmeric powder-1 tsp
  3. Ginger garlic paste-2 tsp + 1 tsp
  4. Salt- to taste
  5. Coconut oil-1 tbsp
  6. Coriander powder-1 and 1/2 tsp
  7. Chili powder-1 and 1/2 tsp
  8. Garam masala-1 tsp
  9. Onion-1/2 cup
  10. Tomato-3/4 cup
  11. Fennel Seeds-1 tsp
  12. Cinnamon sticks-1
Instructions
