Kadai Paneer Masala | Cottage cheese curry

Kadai Paneer Masala is one of the most popular paneer recipe which is spiced up with paneer/Indian cottage cheese , capsicum/bell pepper,onion and tomato paste in gravy consistency.This goes well with jeera rice or Chapathi.

Kadai Paneer

Ingredients:

  • Paneer cubes-250 gms
  • Coriander seeds-2 tsp
  • Jeera/Cumin seeds-2 tsp
  • Pepper-5
  • Fennel seeds-2 tsp
  • Star anise-1
  • Cloves-2
  • Green cardamom-2
  • Cinnamon sticks-2
  • Salt- to taste
  • Onion-1 Medium
  • Tomato-2 Medium
  • Ginger garlic paste-2 tsp
  • Capsicum/bell pepper-1
  • Dry Methi leaf- 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaf-for garnish

Kadai Paneer Masala recipe :

  • Dry roast coriander seeds,green cardamom,clove,cinnamon sticks,jeera,pepper,star anise,fennel seeds for 3-4 mins in medium flame.

  • Once cooled grind to coarse powder in mixie or food processor.
  • Add 1 tbsp oil in pan ,chopped onion and salt.Saute till it becomes translucent.Add tomato and saute till mushy.

  • Add the cooked onion,tomato to grinded coarse powder  in food processor and grind to fine paste.

  • Heat deep pan with 1 tsp oil and add the fine paste.
  • Add ginger garlic paste ,chili powder , turmeric powder and add 1/4 cup of water if required to avoid burning..Cook with lid on until raw flavor disappears for about 10 mins.

  • Bubbles forms on the gravy which means it is cooked well.Heat pan with 1 tsp of oil and add chopped capsicum.Cook for about 2-3 mins both the sides.

  • Add capsicum to the gravy and cook with lid on until oil oozes out from the gravy for about 10 mins.
  • Add Paneer cubes & dry methi leaf .Saute for about 3-4 mins and switch off the stove.Garnish with cilantro/coriander leaf.

Note:

  • You can also grind cashew with tomato and onion to fine paste which makes gravy rich or you can add cream before switching off the stove.
