Baked Gulab Jamun (Healthy dessert)

Baked Gulab Jamun are spongy milk based Indian dessert which is baked instead of deep fried and then soaked in sugar syrup. Standing in front of oil for long time  don’t make me feel good and also i am avoiding deep fried items in my diet these days mostly i try to bake the dishes which requires deep fry.You would ask me about taste ?? I do get it but to my surprise I did not find so much of difference between deep fried gulab jamun and baked ones. And Baked Gulab Jamun needs less work and easy to make :).

Baked Gulab Jamun

Ingredients:

  • Gulab Jamun Mix-2 cups
  • Milk-1/2 cup
  • Ghee-3 tbsp 

Sugar syrup:

  • Water-2 and 1/2 cups
  • Sugar-2 cups
  • Lemon-1 tbsp
  • Saffron-4 strings
  • Cardamom powder-pinch

Baked Gulab Jamun

Baked Gulab Jamun recipe :

  • Add gulab jamun mix,milk, oil and start kneading to form dough which should be moist and not too sticky.Make sure to add milk little by little to form moist dough.

  • Add few drops of oil in bowl,now rub your palm with oil and start forming small balls from the dough to avoid the cracks
  • Preheat Oven to 325 F and grease the baking plate with oil.If the balls are dry then roll the balls over the oil and Place the balls to the baking plate and bake at 325 F for about 30 mins by turning the balls halfway.Keep an eye on the gulab jamun as timing may differ from oven to oven or else it may get burnt at the bottom.

  • Now prepare the sugar syrup by adding water,sugar,cardamom powder,saffron into wide pan.Once it boils add the lemon juice and switch off the stove when it forms syrup consistency.Make sure to switch off the stove before it forms 1 string consistency.

  • Remove the gulab jamun from the oven and once cooled slowly pick the balls and add to the warm sugar syrup.Soak it for half an hour and then serve it with ice cream or alone 🙂

Note:

  • Make sure balls are not dry when they are baked so roll the balls over oil and then place in the oven.
  • Keep an eye on balls for first 15 mins if it gets cooked on the bottom well then turn the other side and bake for another 15 mins or else bake for few more mins as temperature may differ based on oven.
  • Add baked gulab jamun to the warm syrup which helps to make it moist and soft so its good to serve the soaked gulab jamun after 30 mins.
  • It stays good in air tight container for 3 days in refrigerator.
